I came across a video on Facebook yesterday of three women running a race. Two of them were neck and neck about to cross the finish line. They paused to reach for each other’s hand so that they could cross together. The third women took advantage of their hesitation and pushed pass to win the race. The two women stood there stunned in disbelief and visibly upset about their decision. The moment they had work hard for was gone because they let their foot up off the pedal.
The video made me reflect on my favorite African Proverb “The Lion and The Gazelle”
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle: when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.
How fast are you running to achieve your goals, dreams and ambitions. Have you let your foot up off the gas? Sometimes in life its ok to pause and reflect on your accomplishments. However, that time is usually retirement. If you’re still in the race don’t get complacent no matter what your trying to accomplish in life. You owe it to yourself and family to pursue your passions and live your best life. It’s time to renew your commitment to yourself. So, whether you’re a gazelle or lion it’s time to start running.
